Final Days
For three months from July to October 2006, we were in and out of hospitals and rehab centers in the Boston area. I slept on a recliner next to Leon’s bed. The doctor advised me to tell Leon that his final days were approaching and to ask him what he wanted to do and say to me. All we said to each other was, “We are happy together,” sensing the mid-autumn moon as bright as it was 51 years ago when we celebrated the festival in college.
